Leaders and activists of the ruling party have been asked to be careful about that section of the law by their general secretary Obaidul Quader, said Awami League Publication Secretary Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday.

"Any leader or activist of the Awami League and its allies will need to secure permission from their central offices before they can file cases under Section-57, especially against journalists."

"They can't file these cases without permission."

Journalists and human rights workers have been calling for the repeal of Section-57, after a flurry of cases filed against journalists over their news reports or Facebook status.

Police stations too have been asked to consult with their headquarters before recording complaints under the section in an order issued on Aug 2.
