Party Vice-Chairman Shamser Mobin Chowdhury expressed its reaction on Monday, a day after the foreign ministry announced the transfer.

Amid a cloud of charges including 'failure to deliver', Quayes has been removed from the London post for the much lesser role in Brazil.

Chowdhury, a former foreign secretary, told reporters that questions arose over 'mere transfer' of Quayes.

“Given these allegations, the government should have summoned him and taken proper actions after fair investigation.”

Quayes, also a former foreign secretary, was appointed High Commissioner to the UK barely two years ago.

According to a recent report by the Comptroller and Auditor General, Quayes is facing several audit objections for ‘misuse of powers and irregularities’.

BNP leader Chowdhury said: “He (Quayes) was inclined to resort to financial corruption even when he was the foreign secretary.”
Questions arose over his posting in an important country like the UK as the government knew ‘the matter’, he added.
Quayes is also facing criticism for not doing enough for the government during and after the Jan 5 elections.
The Sheikh Hasina government faced a barrage of criticism from the UK and other Western countries over the balloting.
