Dhaka, Feb 27 (bdnews24.com) – Former home minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and ex-BNP MP Mosaddek Ali Falu were stopped Monday from flying out abroad, an official said.
Falu and his family were the first to be refused by immigration police at Zia International Airport at 10am. They told him they were under orders to not allow him to leave the country, said an immigration official with knowledge of the matter.
The media baron, who owns private TV station ntv and daily newspaper Amar Desh and was formerly a close aide to BNP chief Khaleda Zia, was to catch an Emirates flight EK 583 to Jeddah, said the official who declined to be quoted as he was not authorised to brief the media.
Falu, convicted of graft during the military-installed emergency government, was travelling with his wife and daughter and an aide, said the immigration official.
Chowdhury, the former commerce minister, was barred from boarding a Thai Airways flight—TG 322—to Bangkok at 12 noon, the official added.
