Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle has met with Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Shafiqur Rahman.

She went to the Shafiqur’s office in Bashundhara at 9am on Thursday. She was accompanied by Deputy High Commissioner Clinton Pobke, Political First Secretary Anna Peterson, and several other representatives.

The meeting discussed the proportional representation system, the upcoming parliamentary elections, investment, economic development, etc, according to a statement from Jamaat,

During the meeting, the party’s stance on women's rights, women's participation in social, economic and administrative fields, and their ability to work independently was presented to the high commissioner.

The meeting discussed in detail the economic potential of Bangladesh, especially the development of the energy and ready-made garment sectors.

The press statement said that during the meeting, the Australian high commissioner praised Jamaat-e-Islami's role in creating a corruption-free society.
