Senior Bangladesh JaSaD leader Mushtuq Husain has urged political parties to move away from what he described as a culture of blaming “conspiracies” after losing elections.
He made the remarks at a rally held at Dhaka University on Sunday afternoon in support of AFM Ismail Chowdhury, the Bangladesh JaSaD-nominated candidate for Dhaka-8.
“If there are irregularities in the election, we will certainly protest. But if we lose the election, we must not label it a conspiracy. We must move away from this kind of culture,” Mushtuq said.
The JaSaD Standing Committee member called for national unity during the election.
“In this election, we must demonstrate national unity. We will not act as agents of foreign powers. We will not invite foreign intervention for our internal problems.”
Urging vigilance to prevent any attempt to sabotage the polls, Mushtuq said steps must be taken to ensure that no one can occupy polling centres, stuff ballot boxes, or cast fake votes using past methods.
Referring to the killing of Inqilab Moncho convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi, he said: “Two people have already been killed around the election. There must be no more killings. If there are, this election will not be successful.”
