A leading Baloch leader and human rights activist has written an open letter to India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, expressing unwavering support for India while warning of a possible Chinese military deployment in Pakistan’s Balochistan region.
The NDTV reported that Mir Yar Baloch, in the letter written from Pakistani soil, said the people of Balochistan viewed the deepening strategic alliance between Pakistan and China as “dangerous”, particularly as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) enters its final stages.
The Indian media outlet said Mir Baloch claimed Beijing, in coordination with Islamabad, could deploy military troops in Balochistan within the next few months if local resistance forces were not strengthened.
According to the report, Mir Baloch said Balochistan had endured decades of repression under Pakistan’s control, including what he described as state-sponsored violence and widespread human rights abuses.
Baloch nationalist leaders have declared independence from Pakistan in May 2025. Mir Baloch has now announced that the Republic of Balochistan will celebrate the "2026 Balochistan Global Diplomatic Week" in the first week of 2026, enabling Balochistan to engage directly with countries around the world, it added.
In a New Year message addressed to Jaishankar, Mir Baloch praised what he described as bold actions taken by the Indian government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2025 through Operation Sindoor, following the Apr 22 Pahalgam attack last year.
As per the NDTV, he said the operation dismantled Pakistan-backed terror hubs and reflected India’s commitment to regional security and justice
It said Mir Baloch extended New Year greetings to the people of India, Parliament, media and civil society, highlighting historical, cultural, commercial and spiritual ties between India and Balochistan, including the Hinglaj Mata Temple.
The broadcaster added that he reaffirmed full support for India in promoting peace, development, trade, defence and security, saying the people of Balochistan had suffered under “Pakistan’s occupation for 79 years”.
Mir Baloch warned that a Chinese military presence in Balochistan without the consent of the local population would pose serious threats to both India and Balochistan, with wider regional consequences.
The NDTV said China and Pakistan have repeatedly rejected claims of military expansion under CPEC, maintaining that the project is purely economic, while India has consistently opposed the corridor, citing sovereignty and security concerns as it passes through Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
