Horse stable on streets

The iconic horse-drawn carts, a nearly 200-year-old tradition, run from Sadarghat to Gulistan in Dhaka. The horses used for these carriages are kept along the streets near Bangabazar in Gulistan, where everything from feeding to daily care is managed right on the street.

With the rise in the cost of goods, the cost of maintaining the horses has also increased, but the demand for horse-drawn carriages has decreased. The daily cost of feeding and caring for a horse ranges from Tk 400 to Tk 500, while the daily earnings from running a carriage between Sadarghat and Gulistan range from Tk 1,200 to Tk 1,500.
