A variety of battery-powered rickshaws

Colourful battery-operated rickshaws run freely on the labyrinthine alleys of Dhaka, as well as on the main roads. This vehicle, faster than traditional pedal rickshaws, do not have a specific structure, and are often slapped together with whatever parts are available. This makes each one different. Due to the lack of a standard, accidents can occur due to their speed, poor control, inefficient drivers, and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Installing batteries and motors on the frames of regular rickshaws has increased their speed. However, when moving fast on the road, they often veer out of control and get into accidents. Photo: Abdullah Al Momin

Motor engines and batteries are often attached to the frames regular rickshaws to give them battery-operated capacity. As a result, the speed of the vehicles increase, but due to their lack of fitness, these vehicles are often involved in accidents. Photo: Abdullah Al Momin
