Police have arrested popular content creator Ashraful Alom, widely known as Hero Alom, in connection with a rape case filed in Bogura.

He was detained around 2pm on Thursday from a place near the Shajahanpur Police Station on the Dhaka-Bogura Highway.

Additional Police Superintendent Mostofa Mojnur said they executed an arrest warrant issued on Feb 10 by a court over “rape” and “repression”.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the content creator from his locality, he said.

“Alom attempted to flee to Dhaka when Bogura Sadar Police went to arrest him. We later chased his vehicle and apprehended him when he was near Shajahanpur Police Station. He has since been produced before the court," said the officer.

The case was filed against Alom and five others in a Bogura court on May 6 last year.

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted a chargesheet against Alom on Feb 10. The other five suspects were exempted from the case as no evidence was found against them.

The case alleged Alom allegedly raped the complainant multiple times, promising to marry her and make her a film actress.

He reportedly lived with her in different rented houses after making marriage vows in the presence of a cleric, the case said.

The woman also alleged that she was pressured to have an abortion on Apr 18 last year in Bogura. Alom and others allegedly physically assaulted her on Apr 21 as the woman refused to follow his advice.

Subsequently, the woman was admitted to a clinic in Bogura town, where she suffered a miscarriage. She later received treatment at Bogura’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMC) from Apr 24 to Apr 26.

According to the chargesheet, Alom also allegedly took approximately Tk 1.5 million from the woman, promising to make her an actress.
