“The success rate has gone up. But, why should students fail at all to clear the exams? ... It doesn’t make any sense. The government is providing lot of facilities for the students,” she said.
The results of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams have been published on Wednesday with a success rate of 88.29 percent.
Like every year, the education minister handed over the results to the prime minister before formally announcing it.
The success rate has gone up this year from last year’s 87.04 percent.
As many as 109,761 students scored GPA 5, which however is less than last year’s number of 111,901.
“Our children have talent...They can clear the exams if they are given the opportunity,” Hasina said.
Over 1.65 million students sat for this year's SSC and equivalent exams under eight general, one madrasa and one technical education boards.
The theoretical tests for the SSC and equivalent exams were held from Feb 1 to Mar 10 and practical test from Mar 15 to 19.
The prime minister thanked officials for publishing the results within 60 days of the exams.
