This year’s junior scholarship exams for students in eighth grade will begin across Bangladesh on Dec 8, with candidates to be tested in five subject areas.

The exams will run until Dec 15, according to the recently approved schedule.

Prof Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, chairman of the Junior Scholarship Examination Executive Committee and director general of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, confirmed the schedule to bdnews24.com on Sunday.

The education ministry’s academic calendar had initially set a tentative window of Dec 15-20 for the exams, but the final schedule has brought them forward by a week.

The exams will begin with Bangla on Dec 8, followed by English on Dec 10, and mathematics on Dec 13.

Science and Bangladesh and Global Studies will be held on Dec 15.

Each day’s exams will run from 10am to 1pm.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a total of 400 marks, with students selected for merit and general scholarships according to their results.

Bangla, English and mathematics will each carry 100 marks and last three hours.

On the final day, science and Bangladesh and Global Studies will carry 50 marks each, with candidates given one hour and 30 minutes for each subject.

Candidates have been instructed to arrive at their exam centres and take their seats at least 30 minutes before the exams begin.

They must collect their admit cards from the heads of their respective institutions at least seven days before the examinations.

Candidates will also have to correctly enter their roll and registration numbers and subject codes on the OMR forms and fill in the corresponding circles. Answer scripts must not be folded.

Board-approved standard scientific calculators will be permitted.

Mobile phones and other electronic devices will not be allowed inside examination centres, except for the centre secretary.
