The government is moving to bring all English-medium schools in Bangladesh under a unified policy framework, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said.
The initiative aims to ensure educational standards, quality teaching, student safety, accountability and the protection of national interests, he said.
Hajjaj spoke during a visit to a student exhibition at the Aga Khan Academy in the Bashundhara Residential Area of Dhaka on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
At present, English-medium schools operating under foreign curricula at the secondary and higher secondary levels are required to register with education boards to conduct academic activities.
In 2017, the Secondary and Higher Education Division issued the Registration Regulations for Private Schools Operated Under Foreign Curricula, which include different conditions for institutional management, including the formation of governing committees.
Explaining the objectives of the move, Hajjaj said: "We want to build an education system where students will not only achieve good examination results, but also learn to think, innovate and lead.
“Those who are students now will lead Bangladesh in the future. Therefore, equipping them with world-class skills, values and creativity is one of our key priorities.”
"We desire an education system where regardless of whether a student studies in the Bangla medium, English version, or English medium stream, everyone will have equal opportunities to acquire national values, civic responsibilities, and international-standard skills," he added.
Praising the Aga Khan Academy for its modern teaching methods, student-centric instruction, and leadership development activities, the state minister urged other educational institutions in the country to further expand research, innovation, and creative learning activities.
