Summit vessel for LNG storage, regasification reaches Bay of Bengal

A vessel with Floating Storage and Regasification Unit or FSRU of Summit has arrived at Bangladesh’s designated coordinates in the Bay of Bengal ahead of schedule.

The vessel, Summit LNG, was moored 6 kilometres off the island of Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar, the company said in a statement on Saturday.

Summit has time chartered to purchase this vessel from the US-based Excelerate Energy for 15 years and it has now carried LNG from Qatar.

The FSRU will send out Regasified Liquified Natural Gas or RLNG via subsea pipeline connected to the national grid.

Summit LNG is able to regasify 500 million cubic feet of LNG daily.

“Summit is working towards achieving power and energy sufficiency in Bangladesh under the bold leadership of the government,” the statement quoted Summit Group Chairman Muhammed Aziz Khan as saying.

“We are pioneering adaptation of cutting-edge technology for most economical, efficient and sustainable energy solutions to enable graduation to a developed country. Summit is promised bound to provide least cost environment-friendly solutions,” he added, according to the statement.

Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company or RPGCL Managing Director Md Quamruzzaman told bdnews24.com the firm was ready to carry LNG from the Summit vessel to the shore.

Ali Mohd Al-Mamun, managing director of the government’s Gas Transmission Company Limited or GTCL, however, said it would take some more months to supply gas from the Summit vessel in full swing.

The company will supply 100-150 mmcft gas daily from the Summt vessel from May if the weather condition permits, according to Mamun.
