The octogenarian minister was speaking at a rally organised by the Awami League’s US unit in New York on Sunday evening local time.
“Because of these, my feeling is – when I will finally leave this world, I will leave with satisfaction that the people are living in happiness, peace,” he added.
The finance minister said Bangladesh has enjoyed ‘outstanding’ development because Sheikh Hasina’s government has been in power for 10 straight years and termed the period Bangladesh’s ‘golden era’.
“Many ridiculed the dream we have dreamt, the Sonar Bangla Bangabandhu had dreamt, but now we are on the way to become Sonar Bangla,” he added.
According to him, the Awami League would be able to reduce poverty to 12 percent if it wins the general election by the end of this year.
Permanent Representative of Bangladesh in UN Masud Bin Momen and his predecessor AK Abdul Momen also delivered speeches at the programme chaired by US Awami League President Siddiqur Rahman and moderated by General Secretary Abdus Samad Azad.
