A student has been seriously injured after being hit by a teacher’s car on the Rajshahi University campus, officials said.
Liza Akhter was struck outside Tapashi Rabeya Hall on Thursday and was first taken to the university medical centre before being transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), the university proctor said.
Doctors at RMCH said she had suffered a broken leg and was scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday night.
Liza is a 2022–23 student in the Department of History and a resident of Rahamatunnesa Hall.
Witnesses said a speeding car hit her, causing her to fall. The car was being driven by Prof Abul Kalam Azad of the Institute of Environmental Sciences, they said.

One witness, Abdullah Al Maruf, alleged the teacher did not stop to check on the student. “She was hit so hard that she flew over the car and landed on the other side of the road,” he said. “Sadly, the teacher didn’t even get out of the car to check on her.”
Shankar Kumar Biswas, an officer in the RMCH emergency department, said Liza was admitted at around 5pm with a fractured leg.
Proctor Prof Mahbubor Rahman described the incident as “very unfortunate” and said the teacher might be required to bear the full cost of treatment, including if care is needed in Dhaka or abroad.
Prof Azad did not respond to repeated calls for comment
