RUCSU elections rescheduled to Oct 16 due to growing tensions and unrest

The decision follows protests and clash between university students and teachers over “dependent quota”

The Election Commission has postponed the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) elections to Oct 16, citing unrest and logistical challenges.

The announcement came at 7:30pm on Monday after an emergency meeting.

The commission cited two key reasons for the delay: the ongoing “complete shutdown” by university staff and the inability to ensure the participation of sufficient faculty and staff for election duties.

The commission said, “Given the current situation, holding the RUCSU elections is not feasible.”

The new date aims to allow for better preparations and a peaceful, inclusive election process, it added.

The elections, initially scheduled for Sept 25, will now take place on Thursday, Oct 16.
