Uttara 'conspiracy' officers found guilty, shunted out of office

Thirteen government officers, who secretly met in Uttara at the house of former energy adviser Mahmudur Rahman on November 24, 2006, have been shunted out of office and made officers on special duty (OSD). The establishment ministry issued a circular to this effect Saturday.

Dhaka, March 31 (bdnews24.com) - Thirteen government officers, who secretly met in Uttara at the house of former energy adviser Mahmudur Rahman on November 24, 2006, have been shunted out of office and made officers on special duty (OSD).
The establishment ministry issued a circular to this effect Saturday.
Establishment Secretary Dr Abdus Salam Khan told bdnews24.com Saturday night the government move to make the 13 officials OSD was based on the report of a three-member inquiry committee.
Of the officials, three are joint secretaries, four deputy secretaries and six senior assistant secretaries.
The three joint secretaries are AKM Zahangir, director general of food directorate; M Abdul Bari, executive director of national nutrition programme; and Dr Abdus Sabur of Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs ministry.
The four deputy secretaries are Dhaka City Corporation secretary Majibar Rahman, DCC general manager Zakir Hossain Kamal, Dr Zakirul Islam of local government department and Abdul Matin, chief executive of Jhalkathi District Council.
Senior assistant secretaries are Sohel Mahmud Iqbal, inspector of factories and buildings inspection department, Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan and Kazi Imdadul Haque, additional tax commissioners of Dhaka Tax Bhaban, Saraf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury of the health ministry, Savar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdur Rahman Tarafdar, and AJM Salauddin Nagri, a magistrate at the power division.
The caretaker government formed the three-member committee on November 27 to investigate the incident after the media ran reports on the covert midnight meeting.
The then agriculture secretary Abdul Aziz headed the committee whose other members were the then youth and sports secretary Aminul Islam Bhuiyan and additional secretary of the law ministry Habibul Awal.
