Binali Yildirim paid his glowing tribute to the independence leader during his visit to Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhaka on Tuesday. That followed his tribute to the 1971 war heroes at the National Memorial in Savar.
He was received by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam.
Yildirim paid his respects to Bangladesh’s founding father by placing a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
His two daughters, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana were abroad then.
“It is a great honour for me to visit the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum to commemorate the great Bengali statesman and honourable Founder of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who was assassinated by treacherous army officials,” Yildirim wrote in the condolence book.
More than 40 years after his passing, Bangabandhu is “still remembered and respected as one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century”.
“The appreciation and endearment for Turkey, for the Turkish Nation and for Mustafa Kamal Ataturk, which I have personally witnessed during my visit to Bangladesh has touched me deeply.”
“I have the honour to pay tribute to Bangabandhu and his deceased family members. May their souls rest in peace.”
Yildirim arrived Dhaka late Monday to witness the plight of Rohingya refugees, who took shelter in Bangladesh fleeing ‘ethnic cleansing’ in Myanmar’s Rakhine State.
He will visit the Cox's Bazar camp on Wednesday before leaving Bangladesh.
