The Post and Telecommunication Division sent a proposal to the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday seeking a 90 percent increase on their pay.
The recommendation comes 10 years after their salaries were last increased.
A 90 percent increase in the BTRC chairman’s gross salary will take it to Tk 171,000. The hike would mean the vice-chairman would get Tk 142,000 and commissioners Tk 123,000.
The chairman’s current salary and rent put together is Tk 90,000. The vice-chairman and commissioners have been getting Tk 75,000 and Tk 65,000 respectively.
The BTRC wrote to the Post and Telecommunication Division for a restructuring of these salaries eight months ago.
The letter sent before the Eighth National Pay Scale was announced said grade-1 officials would see a 248 percent hike in their salaries.
But the salaries recommended by the Post and Telecommunication Division were less than half of what the BTRC proposed.
“The recommendations made for the BTRC chief, vice-chairman and commissioners were in line with the announced pay scale,” Post and Telecommunication Secretary Md Faizur Rahman Chowdhury told bdnews24.com.
The new salaries will be in effect after the finance ministry sends its recommendations and the prime minister approves them, said an official seeking anonymity.
“But it might take a while,” he said.
