Dhaka, Nov 23 (bdnews24.com)–The cabinet has approved the holiday list for 2010 including March 17, the birthday of independence hero 'Bangabandhu' Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The prime minister's press secretary Abul Kalam Azad said in the holiday list 14 days are general holidays while eight holidays are given by executive order.
Despite the year 2010 having 14 days general holidays, it will, in effect, have 13 days as National Mourning Day and Janmasthomi fall on the same day.
The ruling Awami League in its previous term observed March 17 as 'national children's day'.
The cabinet in the weekly meeting on Monday, presided over by prime minister Sheikh Hasina, it gave the final approval to Hatchery Act 2009 and EPZ Workers Welfare Association and Industries Affairs (amended) 2009.
The cabinet decided to amend the 'Public Service Act' to increase the service age of the freedom fighters, Azad told reporters after the regular meeting.
It also provisionally decided the amendment to 'Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act 1980'.
Monday's meeting decided in principle to include two Upazila Parishad vice chairmen as advisers to the Upazila Coordination Committee to involve young men and women who passed SSC and beyond with national programmes.
The meeting discarded Bangladesh Telecommunications Control Act (amendment) 2009 from its agenda and rejected the proposal of establishing permanent representation of 'Bangladesh United Nations Office for Project Service'.
The cabinet expressed satisfaction for the final verdict on the Bangabandhu murder case and congratulated the prime minister on her winning the prestigious Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development this year.
