New police commissioners appointed in 7 cities

Seven new commissioners have been appointed to the seven metropolitan police departments apart from Dhaka.

The decision was announced in a notification signed by Deputy Secretary of Home Affairs Mahabur Rahman Sheikh on Tuesday.

The newly appointed metropolitan police commissioners were recently promoted to the rank of deputy inspector general, or DIG, and additional DIG.

Hasib Aziz, recently promoted to DIG, has been appointed as the commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police. He is currently serving as the additional DIG of the Criminal Investigation Department.

Rezaul Karim, additional DIG of the Anti-Terrorism Unit, has been promoted to DIG and appointed as commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.

Khondoker Rafiqul Islam, additional DIG of CID, has been promoted to DIG and assigned as commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police.

Mohammad Abu Sufian, additional DIG of the Tourist Police, has been promoted and selected as commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.

Zulfiqar Ali Haider, who has been promoted to additional DIG from Deputy Commissioner (SP rank) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, has been appointed as commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police.

Majid Ali, additional DIG of the Police Bureau of Investigation, or PBI, has been promoted to additional DIG and assigned as commissioner of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police.

Aminul Islam, another deputy commissioner of the DMP, has been promoted to additional DIG and appointed as commissioner of the Barishal Metropolitan Police.

In addition, 37 other police officials have been transferred.
