A school student has been found dead in a rockmelon field in Chattogram's Rangunia.

The throat-slashed body of Mohammad Shahed Islam was recovered around 10:30am on Tuesday from Hazari Beel in Hazarihat area.

Shahed was the son of Abdul Monaf, a Dubai-based expatriate from the Sahabuddinagar area of Parua Union. He was supposed to sit for the SSC exams this year from a local school.

Citing family members, Rangunia Police Station chief (OC) Md Arman Hossain said the boy had left home on Monday evening and did not return. Later that night, a general diary (GD) was filed in this regard.

On Tuesday morning, local residents spotted the body in a rockmelon field in Hazari Beel and informed the police. Authorities recovered the body and sent it to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem.

The OC said the schoolboy had wounds on his throat, adding that legal action was being taken over the incident.
