Floodwaters have begun receding in several Upazilas of Chattogram, offering some relief after days of inundation.

More than 620,000 people, however, remained stranded on Sunday, while the death toll from the flooding rose to 13, according to the District Relief and Rehabilitation Office.

Relentless rain and hill runoff since Jul 5 inundated large parts of Satkania, Lohagara, Chandanaish and Banshkhali, with Satkania and Banshkhali suffering the worst damage.

Satkania Upazila administrator (UNO) Khondkar Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the matter to bdnews24.com on Sunday evening, adding that nowhere had the water fully drained.

Keochia Union resident Syed Mohammad Naimur Rahman Rafi said the water had begun receding on Saturday.

“The water has gone from people's homes, but it still remains on roads and in courtyards.”

Waters of the Sangu River also began to drop, with floodwater clearing from the Satkania-Bandarban road.

According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, the river at Dohazari was flowing 3cm below the danger level on Sunday evening.
