Two young men ‘racing’ on a Rupganj stretch die in fatal motorcycle crash

Police say a motorcycle crashed and caught fire

Two young men have died and another critically injured in a motorcycle crash during what witnesses say was a race on a stretch of road in Rupganj, Narayanganj.

The incident occurred at 300 Foot around 5:30pm near Purbachal, according to Inspector Sohel Rana of the Kanchan Highway Police Camp.

The dead were identified as Abrar Kabir Deep, 21, from Kamal Khan Road, Kafrul, Dhaka, and Suman, 20, from Shewrapara, while the injured, Rabbi, 20, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

All three were students at a private university in Dhaka.

Witnesses told police that two motorcycles were racing on the 300 Foot road.

“The speeding motorcycles lost control. One hit the road divider and caught fire, while the other was also damaged,” Inspector Sohel said.

Locals rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, but the two victims were declared dead upon arrival at Kurmitola General Hospital and Ashiyan Medical College Hospital.

Rabbi was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Firefighters from Purbachal station arrived at the scene, but the fire had already been extinguished by locals. The motorcycles were handed over to the Highway Police.
