Brahmanbaria, Jan 23 (bdnews24.com) – Violence marred polls in Brahmanbaria Thursday, with one dying in polls violence in Nasirnagar Upazila while Sadar Upazila saw voting called off.
One person was killed in bloody fights between supporters of pro-Awami League and pro-BNP candidates over control of Purbabhag polling centre in Nasirnagar, police said.
Nasirnagar police officer-in-charge Ratan Kanti Dasgupta Oli Mia, seriously injured in the fight, died on the way to hospital.
Meanwhile, clashes between supporters of rival candidates, looting of ballot papers and bombings in different centres seriously disrupted polling in Sadar Upazila centres, prompting the Election Commission to call the polls off, officials said.
MK Masud, presiding officer of Natai Government Primary School centre was among dozens hurt in the violence.
