Two students killed as speeding motorcycle hits car on Rupganj 300-feet road

The bike was reportedly travelling at 120kmph when it struck a car at the Jolshiri junction

A high-speed motorcycle collision with a car has left two young men dead on the 300-feet road in Narayanganj’s Rupganj.

The dead, identified only as Rifat, 21, and Sakib, 19, were residents of Bancharampur in Brahmanbaria.

The victims were uncle and nephew and were reportedly students at a college in their hometown.

The accident occurred around 1pm on Sunday at the Jolshiri junction, according to Sohail Rana, chief of the Kanchan Highway Police Camp.

"The car was taking a turn at the junction when a speeding motorcycle, travelling from Kanchan towards Kuril on the service lane, crashed into it," the officer said.

He noted that the motorcycle was travelling at approximately 120km per hour.

"One rider was thrown off and landed a distance away, while the rider at the helm remained pinned to the vehicle. Both were in critical condition," he said.

The victims were first taken to Kurmitola General Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared them dead.

Inspector Md Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the two were brought to the hospital in critical condition around 5:30pm.

Their bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue for postmortem examinations.

Highway police have seized both the motorcycle and the car.

Sohail added that two people were inside the car at the time of the crash.

They may have suffered minor injuries from shattered glass, but left the scene amid the crowd after abandoning the vehicle.

"We have learnt that the fathers of both victims are expatriates. They may have come to Dhaka for some specific purpose. We are looking into the details," the officer added.
