Govt puts DCs, UNOs in charge of managing expired private school, college boards

The DSHE issues instructions to carry out other daily tasks, including salary and allowance processing

The Upazila administrator (UNO), deputy commissioner (DC) or their representatives will serve as the presidents of private schools and colleges whose interim board of directors or ad hoc committees have expired.

In Upazila-level educational institutions, the UNO or their representative will serve as the president, and in district-level educational institutions, the DC or their representative will serve as the president.

With the terms of most educational institutions’ ad hoc committees expired, and a court stay preventing the formation of regular committees, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) of the education ministry has issued the instructions to ensure teachers’ and employees’ MPO salaries and allowances are processed as usual, and all other routine administrative tasks continue uninterrupted.

The instructions sent to the boards on Saturday were released by the DSHE on Sunday.

The education ministry has suspended, for three months, its earlier directive of Oct 30 that required private schools and colleges to form regular governing bodies by Nov 30.

Previously, on Sept 8, the DSHE had ordered the formation of regular committees by Nov 30, noting that all ad hoc committees would be dissolved on Dec 1.

On Aug 31, the government amended the regulations governing management committees and governing bodies.
