Three people – including two schoolgoing siblings – have been killed after a passenger bus crashed into a battery-powered rickshaw in Chattogram.
The collision took place on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway near Dohazari Bazar in Chandanaish Upazila around 8:30am on Thursday.
The dead have been identified as 14-year-old Rizvi Akhter, her 12-year-old brother Adil, and 45-year-old battery rickshaw driver Ruhul Amin.
The two siblings, who hailed from Jamirjuri in the Upazila, were heading to their tutoring classes on the battery-powered rickshaw.
Shuvo Ranjan Chakma, officer-in-charge of Dohazari Highway Police, told bdnews24.com that the rickshaw was turning onto the highway from a back road near Dohazari Bazar when it collided with a Purabi Paribahan bus that was heading towards Chattogram from Bandarban.
Adil and Rizvi were killed on the spot, while rickshaw driver Ruhul Amin died on the way to the hospital.
According to OC Shuvo, police have seized the bus involved in the collision. Following the accident, locals blocked the Dohazari highway in protest.
