Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation, or BRTC, plans to expand its fleet with electric and CNG-run buses while broadening its international routes to boost revenue.
BRTC is considering new international routes, including Barisal-Kolkata, Chattogram-Kolkata, Dhaka-Gangtok (Sikkim)-Darjeeling, and Dhaka-Nepal, according to a report presented at the meeting of the standing committee on the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges in the parliament on Thursday.
"We have asked them (BRTC) to implement these initiatives quickly. They have also been told to hire swiftly to resolve the manpower crisis,” Laxmipur-3 Constituency Member of Parliament Mohammad Golam Faroque told http://bdnews24.com after the meeting.
According to the parliamentary committee notification, the meeting focused on keeping BRTC profitable by including psychological tests in driver recruitment, increasing oversight of the licensing system, and ensuring maximum utilisation of vehicles.
