Abdur Razzak Bin Sulaiman Riyad, a former Students Against Discrimination leader previously accused of extortion, has been sent to jail in a new attempted murder case.
Three other students from Presidency University, Riadul Hawlader, Alif Ahmed Ashik, and Sayem Shikdaer, were also sent to prison alongside him.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroz Tithi passed the order on Friday after Gulshan Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Arman Ali produced the suspects in court.
Prosecution Police SI Moktar Hossain said the court has scheduled a bail hearing for Sunday.
Police arrested the suspects around 8:30pm on Thursday.
The new case was filed by Nirjan Sardar Badhon, also a student at the same university, accusing 11 suspects.
The case alleged the suspect held a prior grudge against Nirjan. The incident occurred around 3:30pm on Thursday in a classroom on the university's third floor.
Riyad allegedly ordered his associates to attack Nirjan.
The associates, Riadul and Sayem, reportedly struck Nirjan with chairs, causing injuries to his chest and back, according to the case statement.
The complainant also alleged that Riyad attacked him with a switchblade with the intent to kill, striking his face.
University teachers and students intervened before Gulshan Police arrived at the scene to detain the suspects.
Riyad first made headlines on Jul 26 last year when he was arrested for demanding extortion at the residence of former MP Shammi Ahmed.
He was out on bail in that case when the latest assault took place.
