The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested six more people in connection with the killing of a mother and her two children in Cumilla’s Muradnagar, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to eight.

According to a statement from RAB’s media cell, the six suspects were detained by RAB-11 on Saturday for their involvement in the killings.

A press conference detailing the arrests will be held later in the evening at the RAB media centre in Karwan Bazar. RAB-11’s commanding officer Lt Col HM Shazzad Hossain is expected to brief the media on the developments.

Earlier, the Army had arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.

At around 3:30am on Friday, the Army nabbed two suspects, identified as Mohammad Sabir Ahmed, 48, and Mohammad Nazimuddin Babul, 56, from Akubpur in Muradnagar.

Rikta Begum, daughter of the deceased Roksana Begum, also known as Rubi, initiated the case with the Bangra Bazar Police Station on Friday.

The case names 38 people, including Shimul Billah, chairman of Akubpur Union Parishad, alongside another 25 unidentified individuals.

The killings took place around 9am on Thursday in the village of Koraibari, Bangra Bazar. Armed assailants stormed the house of Khalilur Rahman, fatally assaulting his family over their alleged involvement in drug trafficking and other criminal activities.

The victims, identified as Khalilur’s wife Rubi, 53, his son Russell Mia, 35, and his daughter-in-law, Taspiya Akhter, aka Jonaki, 29, were all killed on the spot.

Another daughter of Rubi, Ruma Akhter, 28, was severely injured and is currently being treated in Dhaka.

Locals claim that Rubi was involved in drug trafficking for a long time, and “resentment” had led to the incident, but family members have denied these claims. They say the murders were part of a premeditated attack following a mobile phone theft and a dispute over territorial control.

On Friday, the bodies of the victims were buried at Koraibari graveyard after autopsy at Comilla Medical College Hospital. Since the killings, the area has remained tense, with a heavy police presence.
