A 14-year-old student has died after being run over by a bus on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in Munshiganj’s Puran Bawshia area.

The accident occurred around 9:45am on Saturday, prompting her classmates and local residents to block the road in protest.

The victim, Shrabonti Akter, was an eighth-grade student at Gazaria Government Technical School and College.

Gazaria Police Station chief Anwar Alam Azad said that Shrabonti was waiting at the roadside to cross the street to go to school when a Dhaka-bound bus of Star Line, moving at high speed, ran her over. She died instantly.

Following the accident, students and locals blocked the highway, disrupting traffic. Authorities, including police and Army personnel, later arrived to bring the situation under control.

Although traffic resumed after around 30 minutes, students stopped six Star Line buses, and services for the transporter remained suspended.

The local administration is working to calm students and has assured that measures would be taken to prevent such accidents in the future, said Azad.
