A Cumilla court has granted a three-day remand to police to question four people arrested in a case under the Pornography Control Act linked to the alleged rape of a Hindu woman and the circulation of a video of the incident in Muradnagar Upazila.

Judge Mominul Haque of Cumilla’s Amli Court approved the remand order on Thursday, said Court Officer-in-Charge Sadequr Rahman.

Earlier on Tuesday, Muradnagar Police Station Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin, the investigating officer in the case, had sought a seven-day remand for the four accused.

The suspects - Shumon, Ramzan, Md Arif, and Md Anik - are all residents of Baherchar Panchkitta village in Muradnagar.

The case involves a video being recorded of a nude woman in Muradnagar’s Ramchandrapur South Union that circulated on social media, sparking widespread criticism across several platforms.

The survivor filed a rape caase following the incident.

So far, police have arrested five individuals in connection with the case, including a man named Fazor Ali, who has been specifically accused of rape.

According to the case dossier, the woman had recently returned to her father’s home.

On Thursday night, after her parents had left the house around 11pm, Fazor allegedly entered the home and raped her.

A press statement from Cumilla District Police on Sunday stated that Fazor was arrested and beaten by locals on Thursday night in a Muradnagar village after being accused of raping the wife of an expatriate.

He later fled the scene. Others present at the time reportedly recorded a video of the victim and circulated it on social media.

Police later responded to the incident and took legal action.

The woman said her family had previously borrowed money from Fazor, which she believes may have motivated the attack.

Muradnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahidur Rahman said law enforcers began investigating after the “objectionable video” of the survivor went viral on Facebook.

Following this, four suspects were arrested in a raid.

Fazor, who was also detained in the rape case, is currently receiving treatment at Cumilla Medical College Hospital under police custody.
