Chittagong, May 11 (bdnews24.com) -- The Chittagong University shuttle trains which have various 'graffiti' on their bogies are going to be mopped up thanks to the authorities for their 'clean-up' programme.
The university authorities have started the clean-up work on Wednesday which will end by May 13.
"Following a decision taken at Sunday's meeting with the local and railway administrations, the authorities are implementing the programme," university proctor Saidul Islam told bdnews24.com.
After a special syndicate meeting on May 1, the authorities have banned all types of compartment-based organisational activities, including sticking posters, leaflets and graffiti on the bodies of the trains.
"Usually, the railway authorities do the paintworks on the trains. Since we've banned organisational activities, we're doing it on our own this time," the proctor said.
"These groups do the artworks just to establish control over the compartments. As their activities are banned, these graffiti are no longer needed," Saidul Isalm said.
Meanwhile, the classes, examinations and administration works at the university will resume on May 14 after a suspension of two weeks.
On the day, two more compartments will be added to the trains each that run on the 22-km Campus-City route seven times a day to carry some 19,000 students.
On Sunday, the authorities also decided to assign two police officers and a university teacher in each compartment from May 14 to ensure the safety of general students.
The latest spell of clashes among five compartment-based groups on Apr 29 and Apr 30 left at least eight students injured, prompting the university authorities to expel 11 students, ban all compartment-based group activities and suspend the classes and exams until May 12.
At least 10 clashes took place among the groups over the last two and a half years.
