The village home of a leader of NCP’s student affiliate Jatiya Chhatra Shakti who allegedly beat a Dhaka University student over suspicions that he was involved with the Chhatra League, has been torched.
The incident took place at the house of Ali Hossain Bepari in Domghata village of Dhobaura Upazila in Mymensingh on Friday morning, said Dhobaura Police Station chief Md Shafiqul Islam.
Ali Hossain Bepari's son Saifullah is the organising secretary of the Dhaka University wing of the Jatiya Chhatra Shakti.
Ali Hossain, organiser of Mymensingh Chhatra Shakti, said: “We visited the scene in the morning after receiving news of a fire at Saifullah’s house.”
“The assailants set fire to the store of firewood used for cooking in Saifullah’s house, causing the fire to spread quickly across the house. But the family members, who immediately realised the situation, brought the fire under control with the help of neighbours.”
He added, "The assailants did not just set fire to the house. They also hacked and broke the fence on one side of Saifullah's house. We demand that those involved in this incident be arrested and brought to justice."

Earlier on Mar 9, Rahid Khan Pavel, a student of the Department of Philosophy from the 2020-21 academic year, was allegedly beaten and turned over to the police by members of the NCP’s student over suspicions that he was involved with the Chhatra League.
Later, his mother filed a complaint against several students with Shahbagh Police Station.
According to the complaint, Saifullah, Hasib-al-Islam, Saeed Afridi, Riyad Mal, Sardar Nadeem Shuvo, Shakib, Forkan Uddin Mohi, Bayezid Hasan, Himel and Sanjeev Hossain, along with 10-15 other unidentified persons, attacked Pavel together.
They beat the student for two to two-and-a-half hours with local weapons, iron rods, steel pipes and sticks before handed him over to the Shahbagh Police Station, the case alleges.
Dhobaura Police Station OC Md Shafiqul Islam said, “We visited the scene early in the morning after receiving information about the arson attack.
“The family has not filed any complaint yet. However, an intensive investigation is under way into the incident. Details can be revealed after the investigation is complete.”
