Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken 107 Rohingya, including women and children, who roamed outside their camps into custody and has sent them back to refugee camps in Cox's Bazar' Teknaf.

In a press statement issued in the early hours of Thursday, Lt Col Ashikur Rahman, commander of BGB's Teknaf-2 Battalion, said that the Rohingya were taken into custody following raids at the Damdamiya checkpost on the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Road from morning to night.

He said, "Recently, there has been an increase in the number of Rohingya people from different camps in Teknaf roaming outside. The BGB has information that many of them are involved in various crimes committed outside the Rohingya camps."

"This has led to a deterioration in the law-and-order situation in the border area. In this regard, the BGB has increased its raids on various checkposts in Teknaf."

Under the circumstances, searches were intensified at the Damdamiya Checkpost on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Road, he said.

During the operation, 107 Rohingyas were taken into custody after different vehicles travelling outside of the camp without prior approval were stopped, said Lt Col Ashikur.

The BGB official said, "The Rohingya taken into custody are residents of various camps in Teknaf and Ukhiya. Among them, 61 were men, 28 were women and 18 were children."

"They were travelling for different purposes, including visiting relatives outside the camp in various areas, including Teknaf."

Later, they were put into the custody of Majhi (Rohingya leader) in their respective camps after signing a bond, Ashikur said.
