Dengue has claimed the life of a woman named Chamakphul at Mymensingh Medical College over the past 24 hours.

The patient passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, said Dr Muhammad Main Uddin, the hospital's assistant director (administration).

With this, the total number of deaths this year from dengue at MMCH has reached five.

The deceased, 65-year-old Chamakphul, was a resident of Gazirpara in Bakshiganj area of Jamalpur.

The assistant director said, "Chamakphul was admitted to the hospital's Medicine Ward No. 11 on Jun 27 after contracting dengue.

"When her condition deteriorated there, she was moved to the ICU on Jun 28. She passed away while undergoing treatment there."

Authorities at MMCH said that seven dengue patients were admitted in the last 24 hours, and 13 were currently undergoing treatment. Among them are nine men, three women, and one child.

As of now, 133 dengue patients have received treatment at the hospital this year, with five fatalities recorded.

The affected patients are receiving treatment in various wards. Authorities said that the majority of them contracted the pathogen in Dhaka before being admitted to the MMCH.
