A court has ordered a former secretary of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Chattogram, to jail for manipulating his son’s HSC results.
Chattogram Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Mizanur Rahman rejected Narayan Chandra Nath's bail plea and issued the order on Tuesday.
Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Public Prosecutor Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan told bdnews24.com, “Narayan was granted bail by the High Court.
“After that expired, he surrendered to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court today and applied for bail. The court rejected it and ordered him to be sent to jail.”
A case was filed against Narayan and four others on Jan 21 on charges of forging his son's HSC results. The case was filed by the board’s current Secretary AKM Shamsu Uddin Azad.
Former senior system analyst of the education board, Kibria Masud Khan, Narayan’s son Nakshatra Debnath, and former chairman of the board, Mustafa Kamrul Anwar, were also accused in the case.
When allegations of rigging in Nakshatra’s results came to light, the education board investigated and found evidence of it. Later, his results were cancelled.
Narayan was made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) while serving as director of the Secondary and Higher Education Region of Chattogram.
Earlier, he was also the secretary and controller of examinations of the Chattogram education board.
While in the role of secretary, Nakshatra participated in the 2023 HSC examinations from a private college in the city. As some teachers questioned his results, an investigation committee was formed by the education ministry.
Based on the committee's report, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Chattogram, cancelled Nakshatra's results on Oct 24, 2024. At that time, the committee also recommended filing a criminal case against Narayan.
