Dhaka metro rail has resumed operations after an electrical fault forced suspension for nearly two hours.
Thousands heading home suffered due to the disruption on Saturday.
Metro rail operations returned to normal around 7pm, Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project Assistant Project Director Md Ahsan Ullah Sharifi told bdnews24.com.
He said, “The power supply to the overhead catenary of the metro rail was cut off around 5pm. After it was repaired, train operations returned to normal at 6:55pm.”
Many passengers were stranded at stations during the two-hour metro rail shutdown. They expressed their suffering on social media by making different comments.
A passenger named Dihan Zaman wrote, “I have been stuck for a long time, I don’t understand why the train is not running.”
On Mar 24, the metro rail had to be closed for half an hour due to a mechanical fault (power failure) in the train.
Earlier, on Jan 25, the metro rail service from Pallabi to Motijheel was closed for 40 minutes and from Uttara North Station to Pallabi for 55 minutes due to a “mechanical fault”.
