A bag containing crude bombs, locally known as “cocktails”, has been caught in a fishing net cast on a pond in Gazipur’s Sreepur Upazila.
Sreepur Police Station chief Mohammad Nasir Ahmed said the bombs were found around 8am on Friday in the pond of Piyar Ali College in the Maona Bazar area.
Local fish trader Jahangir said three fish traders had leased the Piyar Ali College pond. On Friday morning, they went to the pond to cast fishing nets.
The bag was dredged up by the net. After noticing bomb-like objects wrapped in tape inside the bag, they informed the police, he said.
When informed, policemen, members of the Porabari RAB camp, and soldiers from the 8th Engineer Battalion of the 9th Infantry Division went to the scene. Police have also informed the bomb disposal unit.

OC Nasir Ahmed said seven to eight crude bombs wrapped in tape were found in the bag at the scene.
“The matter will be confirmed once the bomb disposal unit arrives. The necessary legal action will be taken,” he said.
