A Jamalpur tribunal has sentenced three people to death and fined them Tk 200,000 each over the gang-rape case of a housewife in Jamalpur’s Sadar Upazila.

Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim delivered the verdict on Thursday afternoon, said state prosecutor Fazlul Haque.

The convicts have been identified as Bulbul Ahmed, 45, from Beltia of Jamalpur Municipality, Kalam Makku, 50, from Naubhanga Char in Pathalia, and Ruku, 55, from the same area.

Prosecutor Fazlul said that on May 14, 2023, Bulbul, Kalam, and Ruku abducted and gang-raped a housewife from in front of the Hazrat Shah Jamal (RA) shrine in Jamalpur city.

Her husband then filed a case with Jamalpur Sadar Police Station, accusing the three of them.

After hearing the testimonies of 10 witnesses, the judge delivered his verdict.

Two of the three accused were present in court at the time of the verdict, but one is still absconding.

The plaintiff expressed satisfaction with the verdict, said prosecutor Fazlul.
