Aviation Security or AVSEC have detained a passenger carrying yaba pills at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The detainee has been identified as Md Fauzuddin, hailing from Doloirgaon village in Sylhet's Companiganj Upazila.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) spokesman Muhammad Kausar Mahmud confirmed the details.

The passenger was scheduled to fly to Riyadh on board Saudia Airlines flight SV-805, he said, citing AVSEC.

While undergoing a security check by a scanner in the Boarding Bridge-9 area at 11:30am, ASG Shakila Akter Mitu felt something suspicious in the passenger's bag. She then sent it to constable Abu Bakkar for a physical search.

The constable confirmed three packets of yaba pills were present in the bag. Afterwards, 1,383 Yaba pills were recovered in presence of members from different forces.

AVSEC later handed over the detainee and recovered yaba pills to the airport wing of the Department of Narcotics Control, he said.
