A Dhaka court has pushed back the deadline for submitting the supplementary investigation report on the murder of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, the convenor of Inqilab Moncho platform, setting Jun 7 as the new date.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam deferred the deadline on Sunday as the investigating officer, CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Quader Bhuiyan, failed to submit the report on time, Prosecution Police Sub-Inspector Rokonuzzaman said.
Hadi, who gained prominence during protests demanding a ban on the Awami League following the July Uprising, had announced his candidacy as an independent for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the general election.
On Dec 12, 2025, he was shot in the head by unidentified assailants during an election campaign at Dhaka’s Bijoynagar.
After emergency surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he was moved to a private hospital and subsequently flown to Singapore for advanced care before he succumbed to his injuries on Dec 18.
Following the shooting, Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case on Dec 14, which was later upgraded to a murder charge following Hadi’s death.
The investigation was initially transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
On Jan 6, 2026, the DB submitted a chargesheet accusing 17 individuals.
The chargesheeted suspects include primary suspect Faisal Karim Masud alias Rahul alias Daud, 37, his father Md Humayun Kabir, 70, mother Hashi Begum, 60, wife Saheda Parveen Samia, 24, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Shipu, 27, and associate Maria Akhter Lima, 21.
Key suspect Faisal and his “accomplice” Alamgir Hossain were later arrested in West Bengal by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Indian police.
The plaintiff rejected the DB’s findings and filed a no-confidence petition on Jan 15.
The court accepted the petition and tasked the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) with conducting a supplementary investigation into the murder.
