The death penalty for the accused in the Ramisa rape-murder case was 'inevitable', and now Ramisa's neighbours in Pallabi are demanding its speedy execution.
Media workers have been gathering in front of Ramisa's rented house in Pallabi since Sunday morning to hear the verdict in the case. Many locals gathered there after the verdict was announced. Many were seen listening to the verdict on live video on their mobile phones.
Ramisa's school, Popular Model High School, is just a few blocks away from her home. The school opened on Sunday after the Eid holidays. Ramisa's classmates also came to school. Only Ramisa is not there.

The banner that the school authorities hung in front of her house demanding justice after Ramisa's murder reads “Ramisa Akhter, Class II, Roll 1”, below her photo.
After the verdict announcement in the murder case of the school's outstanding student, Popular Model High School Principal Saiful Islam said: "Prime Minister Tarique Rahman came here and assured us of justice. We are happy that the two accused have been sentenced to death.
“Now, our demand is that this verdict be executed quickly without any pretext."
Ramisa's neighbour and witness in the murder case, Zakirul Islam Raju, said: "The ‘hanging till death’ verdict of the accused in this brutal murder case was inevitable. Neighbours who went to the house that day and witnessed the brutality of the incident all said in one sentence that the murderers should be hanged.”
"Now, all of us, the locals, want this verdict to be executed as soon as possible."
Raju went to the house immediately after the incident. He said, "That day, Ramisa's father, I and a few others broke the door. But when I recall what I saw entering the room, I still feel so bad... I don't want to share that description with anyone."

Md Shahriar, a local young man, sat at a tea stall called Baithakkhana opposite Ramisa's house. When asked about the reaction after the verdict, Shahriar said: "Go and find out how many death sentences are pending in Bangladesh. We will not say 'we are happy' until they are hanged. If they are hanged, then we will give you a good reaction."
Ramisa's father, Abdul Hannan Molla, had been living with his family in a rented house in Pallabi for more than a decade. It was here that his two daughters were born.
His younger daughter, Ramisa, studied at a nearby school. Hannan and his family were known to many people in the area, and his daughters grew up in front of them.
A woman from the neighbourhood said, “This verdict should be executed soon. So, people recall it before acting so cruelly with any child.”
A garment worker named Khadija Begum said, "We also go to work leaving our children at home. We were very scared after this incident. However, we are all happy with the death sentence. If he is hanged, it will affect 10 (others) and (they will be scared before committing such crimes). This was necessary."
