The High Court has transferred control of judicial appointments, transfers, promotions, leave, and discipline from the executive branch to the Supreme Court.

It has also ordered the formation of a separate secretariat for the judiciary within three months.

The bench of Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury made the decision after a hearing on a writ petition on Tuesday.

The ruling effectively restores Article 116 of the Constitution to its earlier form, giving the Supreme Court direct control over subordinate courts.

Shishir Manir represented the petitioner in court, while Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman represented the state. Laywer Ahsanul Karim attended the hearing as an intervener.
