Police have arrested two more people in connection with the murder case of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Md Sohag outside Mitford Hospital in Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police spokesperson Md Talebur Rahman shared the development at a press conference on Saturday.

The two new arrestees are Roman Byapari and Abir Hossain, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to 14.

According to Talebur, 12 suspects were arrested earlier, nine of whom have given confessional statements.

The latest arrests were made based on the confessional statements and CCTV footage from the scene, which helped identify further suspects involved in the killing, he said.

Of the 19 accused named in the case, nine have now been arrested.

Police say efforts are under way to arrest the other accused.

On the evening of Jul 9, due to a business dispute and previous enmity, Sohag was bludgeoned to death outside Gate No. 3 of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital.

As video footage of the incident went viral on social media, it sparked widespread criticism nationwide.

Police and locals claim those involved in the murder and named behind the scenes are all known to each other, with some being former business associates of Sohag.
