Operations in Bangladesh’s public and private offices will resume on Tuesday following a weeklong Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, as people return to Dhaka and divisional cities

Offices will revert to regular 9am–5pm working hours.

Banks will reopen for transactions from 10am to 2:30pm, though official banking activities will continue until 6pm.

The capital market will operate from 10am to 2:30pm.

Kamalapur Railway Station and Sadarghat Launch Terminal were crowded with travellers returning to Dhaka on Monday, the last day of the Eid break.

Long-distance buses also returned to the capital with passengers.

Despite the influx, traffic in Dhaka remained moderate.

Roads in Mirpur, Farmgate, Uttara, Mohakhali, Gulshan, and Banani experienced relatively light flow, with city buses seeking passengers.

Many passengers suffered as long-haul buses were delaying their departure from Dhaka’s terminals due to “lower” ticket sales.

Some bus operators even “cancelled” pre-scheduled trips, citing low turnout of passengers.

Private job-holder Ashif Islam Shaon said he suffered while on his way back to Dhaka from his Barishal village home.

"I purchased two return tickets. I am alone. So, I called my acquaintances to go together -- but couldn't find any. Just before the pre-scheduled departure time, I reached the counter and heard that the journey was cancelled.”

Mar 16 was the last working day before Eid.

This year, the government extended the Eid holiday by adding Mar 18 to the break. Mar 18 was the only working day between the Shab-e-Qadr holiday on Mar 17 and the pre-scheduled Mar 19-23 Eid break.

Many holidayers have taken additional leave to extend the break until Mar 28.
