Gas supply through the pipeline in Brahmanbaria resumed around four and a half hours after a construction mishap during the ongoing four-lane highway expansion damaged a gas connection line.
Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited’s Deputy General Manager Shafiqul Haque said gas supply was restored around 9pm on Thursday, bringing relief to thousands of affected consumers.
The disruption occurred around 4pm in Ulchapara area of Brahmanbaria municipality when an excavator accidentally struck a section of the gas pipeline during roadwork.
Shafiqul said the excavator punctured a six-inch pipeline, causing a gas leak.
He said upon being informed by the contractor’s team, the technical crew immediately rushed to the site.
The gas transmission line at Ghatura in the Sadar Upazila was temporarily shut to carry out repairs safely.
He added that after completing the repair work, the company resumed supply to all affected areas by 9pm.
Construction on the Ashuganj-Akhaura four-lane highway has been under way for a long period. The 51km stretch is being developed by Indian contracting firm Afcons Infrastructure Limited.
