Police have arrested three people on charges of raping a 14-year-old in Mymensingh’s Muktagacha.

Muktagacha Police Chief Ripon Chandra Gope said the victim was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for medical examination on Thursday.

The suspects were arrested after the victim’s mother started a case on Wednesday night, a day after the incident had occurred, according to police.

The arrestees -- Pankaj Dey, 19, Roman, 23, identified by a single name, and Emran Hossain, 32 -- have been sent to jail pending trial on Thursday afternoon.

According to the case dossier, the victim, who was working as a house help in Dhaka, was going to her home and got off the bus at Muktagacha at 9:30pm on Tuesday. She arrived near a bazaar in an autorickshaw and intended to walk the rest of the way to her home, which was nearby.

She reportedly met Pankaj on the way, who offered to take the victim home in the autorickshaw he was travelling in along with three others, including the two arrestees.

The autorickshaw allegedly took a different direction to a secluded place where the crime took place.

The case statement said the suspects took turns in raping her before abandoning her near a fish farm.

Locals rescued her on Wednesday afternoon and took her home.

The arrestees confessed to their crime in an arbitration organised by locals on Wednesday night. The fourth offender, Amir, 28, also identified by a single name, however, did not attend the arbitration and fled.
