Two of three derailed carriages of the inter-city Bijoy Express train have been recovered after overnight rescue operations in Mymensingh, with efforts under way to recover the final carriage.
Rail service remains normal on the route as of 9am, according to Md Akter Hossain, chief of Mymensingh Railway Police Station.
The three carriages of the Chattogram-bound train derailed in the Gouripur Railway Junction area around 10:45pm on Wednesday.
The Bijoy Express train continued its journey to Chattogram around 12:25am, leaving the derailed carriages behind. A relief train was sent to the accident scene from Mymensingh.
The accident occurred due to a glitch in the computer system relay interlock, which prevented the line from being cleared, said Havildar Golam Mowla of the Mymensingh station Railway Nirapatta Bahini (RNB).
A relief train, however, is working to recover all the carriages and rail service is proceeding as normal, he said.
Officer Akter said that two carriages had been removed and the rescue team is working quickly to recover the remaining carriage and make the line completely safe. However, he added that it would take some more time to complete the operation.
